AZAGC Receives Maricopa Association of Governments Prestigious 2014 Desert Peak Award

June 26, 2014

The Arizona Chapter Associated General Contractors recently won its second Maricopa Association of Governments Desert Peaks Award.

AZAGC along with other industry and agency stakeholders received the Public Private Partnership Desert Peak award for the "Don't Let Our Air Go Up in Smoke" Winter No Burn Campaign (2013-2014). This award is presented to the group or project that has demonstrated a commitment to regionalism through a public-private-partnership.

AZAGC Senior Vice President Amanda McGennis was instrumental in organizing AZAGC members and other stakeholders to sponsor electronic billboards across the valley to increase awareness of no woodburning fires on potentially high pollution days for PM 2.5. Amanda also worked with the Arizona Department of Transportation to use their electronic message boards as well to remind the travelling public not to burn. As a result this collaborative effort was a success: there were no air quality violations for PM 2.5 and the region stayed in attainment with national health-based air quality standards.
