AZAGC Responds to EPA Proposal to Revise the Ozone Standard

March 18, 2015

AZAGC sent this letter on Monday to the Environmental Protection Agency voicing our disapproval of the latest proposal to lower the current primary and secondary ozone standard from 75 parts per billion (ppb) to a range of 65 to 70 (ppb).  This proposal could place as many as 10 of Arizona’s 15 counties into non-attainment.  Ozone attainment is a requirement of the federal Clean Air Act (CAA) which directly impacts transportation funds. Should the region be unable to attain the standard, infrastructure development could be severely impacted and/or extremely stringent control measures would have to be implemented to get the region into compliance.

AZAGC will continue to monitor this proposal and update as the process continues.
